Bob Wheeler
Bob Wheeler was born in New London, NH in 1942. After his education at the University of New Hampshire (BA 1963 and MBA 1968) and two years as a Army officer, he started his banking career at Worcester County National Bank in 1968. He left in 1971 for the General Manager's position at Eastman, a large second home development in Grantham, NH. Leaving there in 1975, he ran a large building materials supplier in Manchester, NH until 1978, when he became President of the Bedford Bank, Bedford, NH. In 1984, he first came to the Vineyard as President of Martha's Vineyard National Bank (now a branch of Sovereign Bank). He left the Vineyard in 1991 and was President of banks in Lawrence, MA and Pelham, NH. He founded the Southern New Hampshire Bank and Trust Company in 1995 and was President until 2002, when he chose to return to the Vineyard as Executive Vice President of Dukes County Savings Bank (now Martha's Vineyard Savings Bank), a position he still holds. He is involved in a number of affordable housing initiatives on the island and is a Director of Martha's Vineyard Community Services and the Scottish Society of Martha's Vineyard.
