About Us Board Member - William Skinner
William SkinnerBill's background is basically in industry but has served in many capacities in the volunteer world. He graduated from The University of Michigan with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1961 and became registered as a "PE" in 1970. His professional path took him through a series of Sales and Sr. Management jobs in the steel aerospace industries for 25 years, followed by 15 years in a variety of positions in consumer products and some aerospace related activities at Ball Corporation. Bill as been active in mergers and acquisitions throughout most of he career and is directly responsible for three startup companies, two in Europe and one in California. For 10 years, he was a director of the American National Trust Company, now Old National Trust, which he retired from in 2006.
As a volunteer, Bill has been the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, President of the Rotary Club, Chairman of the Ball State University Foundation, Secretary of the Ball Brother's Foundation, and a director of many not-for-profit organizations, including the YMCA, the Muncie Children's Museum, and United Way.
Bill retired from a spin-off of Ball in 2001 and volunteered to start a small business incubator in Muncie, which he ran for two years. He and his wife, Julie, moved from Muncie, Indiana, their home for 40+ years to Martha's Vineyard in 2006. They have three grown sons. Bill enjoys golf, tennis, some fishing, and is learning to relax. He is also a Counselor in the SCORE organization on the Vineyard.
